About Tom

IF YOU WANT NATURAL-LOOKING PHOTOGRAPHS OF YOUR FAMILY, HIRE A PHOTOGRAPHER WITH NATURAL TALENT

It’s been quite a few years since Tom got his first camera. Tom had already been making photographic art for over 20 years when we met and I was introduced to his photographic talent. Natural talent all the way and not a bit influenced by the “normal” way of doing things. You can see his art work at www.tombrickhouse.com Tom has learned a great deal about what makes a great photograph and now he is putting that talent towards making great family portraits. Great portraits are 98% the result of people skills and talent and perhaps 2% equipment and training. One could train for years with the best equipment available and still not be as good a people photographer as Tom. Some have it, some don’t!

The proof is in the picture. I suppose I could make this letter 1,000 pages long and still not be able to fully describe the wonderful photos Tom Brickhouse can provide for you and your family If you haven’t seen Tom’s portfolio, there’s an easy way for you to do so. Just go to Tom's Portfolio page or call Tom to make other arrangements.

There’s no pressure, obligation or salesperson to bug you. Just some great photos, perhaps of people you know.

TOM'S FORMAL EDUCATION - HE HAS NONE!

Tom did attended Virginia Commonwealth University for a year and a half. At that time VCU didn’t even offer photography as a course let alone a major so he ended up majoring in sculpture in order to do photography. If that sounds crazy, just remember it was the 70s. Any way he soon realized that college was not going to take him where he wanted to go. For the next 30 years he continued to take pictures while working as a bricklayer (much of that time running his own business), then a web developer (now that's what I call a career change) while going through the ups and downs (mostly ups, thank God) that life often throws at us.

I am now very glad that Tom never went to photography school. Being self-taught, he has created his own style and technique. To everyone’s benefit. People love Tom’s style because they are finally getting what they want — natural-looking photos of their family. We call it “Candid Studio Portraits”.
